Why Spay
and Neuter Your Pet?
Spaying or
neutering your pet is a simple procedure, usually done in one day.
It means removing their reproductive organs. This procedure is
commonly performed when your pet is between the ages of 3 to 6
months. There are many reasons why you should seriously consider
doing this:
1. It helps
dogs and cats live longer and healthier lives.
2. It reduces the risks of health problems which may be difficult
and costly to treat, such as uterine, ovarian and breast cancer in
females and testicular and prostate disease in males.
3. Cats are less likely to spray and mark their territory.
4. Both dogs and cats are less likely to run away and get into
fights, sustaining injuries that may be costly to the owner or actually
losing their lives.
5. Animal over population, ie: animal shelters are
overburdened with a surplus of unwanted animals, which are quickly
euthanized and cost communities millions of dollars controlling unwanted
animals.
6. Stray and feral animals suffer agonizing deaths, such as
starvation, freezing, being hit by cars or dying of disease.
7. There are not enough homes for mixed or purebreed
animals. Believe it or not, shelters receive purebreds
everyday! (Most responsible breeders have homes for their animals
before they are born!)
